Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan University men's tennis faced a tough Concordia University (Neb.) squad on Tuesday, falling 6-1 despite a standout performance from Jacob Balfany at No. 1 singles. Balfany pulled off an impressive victory, claiming one of his best career wins against one of the highest-ranked players he will face this season.
Balfany fought hard in his singles match, coming back after dropping the first set to defeat Concordia's top player, Fuentes, 2-6, 6-3, 12-10 in a thrilling third-set tiebreaker. The rest of the Prairie Wolves' singles lineup faced strong competition from Concordia's experienced players, with no other player able to secure a win. Gavin Nichols, Sam Rademacher, Ian Armbrust, Tyler Blair, and Glenn McChristian all put up valiant efforts but ultimately fell in straight sets.
In doubles, NWU struggled to find rhythm against a strong Concordia squad. Balfany and Nichols lost 6-1 to Fuentes and Velders, while Blair and Rademacher were bested 6-2 by Abadia and Rodriguez. The team of Armbrust and McChristian also fell 6-2 to Works and Bedrosian, giving Concordia the doubles point.
