CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (July 31, 2024) – Former Nebraska Wesleyan track & field student-athlete Breanne (Bre) Geary has been named as one the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) nominees for the Division III Commissioner's Association (DIIICA) Women's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year.
"Bre has been a staple within our track & field program and a true leader both for our team and on campus," said Derrick McKenzie. "Bre gives us another example and reason why she is going to be a force in the professional community for years to come. A leader in so many ways, this is just the tip of the iceberg for her."
The DIIICA Women's Sports Student Student-Athlete of the Year Award honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership, and a personal statement submitted by each nominee.
Geary, a sport management major with a minor in business administration, graduated with a 3.82 GPA. Due to her work in the classroom, she was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team in 2023 and 2024 and earned USTFCCCA All-Academic all four years.
During her senior season, Geary garnered two All-American honors on the track. Geary was a member of the 4x400 relay team that finished ninth at the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. At the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Geary helped the 4x400 relay team to an eighth-place podium finish. Geary finished her career as a two-time USTFCCCA Midwest All-Region selection and seven-time all-conference performer.
Geary has been a proven leader on campus during her time at NWU. She was an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for NWU and the A-R-C, including a stint as vice president for NWU during her junior year. Geary was selected to attend the 2023 NCAA Division III Immersion Program and the 2024 NCAA Career in Sports Forum.
