LINCOLN, Neb. – Avery Decker has been selected as Nebraska Wesleyan's nominee for both the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year award and the NCAA Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) Student-Athlete of the Year award. The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) has also chosen Decker as its conference nominee for both prestigious honors.
Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service, and leadership throughout their college careers.
A 2025 graduate and standout on the Prairie Wolves women's track & field team, Decker captured the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship in the javelin. She is a four-time First Team All-American in the event and was honored as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American.
Decker's nomination marks the second consecutive year NWU has put forward a candidate for both national awards. In 2024, Bre Geary advanced to the Top 30 in the NCAA Woman of the Year selection process.
The Woman of the Year Selection Committee will narrow the field to 30 honorees, with 10 chosen from each NCAA division. From that group, nine finalists will be named, and the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced at the NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C. in January 2026.
