PELLA, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling faced another challenging opponent in the American Rivers Conference, falling 40-6 to No. 21 Central College on Wednesday night. The Prairie Wolves put forth a determined effort, highlighted by
Robbie Fisher's dramatic pin at 133 pounds, but the nationally ranked Dutch ultimately proved too much.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The dual opened at 125 pounds, where Christopher McClanahan squared off against Central's David Vukobratovich. McClanahan pushed the match to sudden victory but ultimately fell short, dropping a tight 12-9 decision as Central took an early 3-0 lead.
At 133 pounds, Robbie Fisher turned the momentum in NWU's favor with a thrilling performance. Fisher capitalized on a late scramble, securing a pin at 5:38 to put the Prairie Wolves ahead 6-3 and ignite the NWU bench.
Central quickly responded at 141 pounds, as the seventh-ranked Pierre Baldwin edged Jared Gallub in a 5-3 decision. Gallub fought hard, but Baldwin's late takedown with nine seconds left in the match sealed the victory, tying the dual at 6-6.
The Dutch pulled ahead at 149 pounds, where Cael Cox's relentless attack resulted in a 17-1 technical fall over Tyler Salpas in 6:41. Central extended their lead to 11-6 and never looked back.
At 157 pounds, Carter Martinson continued the momentum for Central with an 18-2 technical fall over Kaden Ontiveros in 6:06, giving the Dutch a commanding 16-6 advantage.
The 165-pound bout featured a hard-fought effort by Seth Littrell, but Central's Carson Martinson earned a 12-3 major decision, widening the gap to 20-6.
In the 174-pound matchup, Emilio Chavez faced Jason Hermann in a gritty battle. Hermann's relentless offense led to a 20-3 technical fall in the final seconds, extending Central's lead to 25-6.
Central's dominance continued at 184 pounds, where Sam West pinned Sam Weaver in just 2:11. West's win pushed the Dutch's lead to 31-6.
At 197 pounds, Austin Roos displayed his technical skill, delivering a 19-3 technical fall over his Casey Kinnell in 6:08. The victory brought the score to 36-6.
The dual concluded with the heavyweights at 285 pounds. NWU's Donovan Mann fought hard against Hayden Hearne, but Hearne's strength and agility resulted in a 14-4 major decision, sealing the 40-6 win for Central.
