Three Meets, One Weekend: Track and Field Puts on a Show to Begin the Season

Lincoln, Nebraska (January 14, 2023) - Over the course of two days, the Nebraska Wesleyan Track and Field team sent athletes to three different meets. 
  • Running event athletes remained in Lincoln and competed in the Graduate Classic at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
  • Field event athletes went to Crete Nebraska to compete in the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic at Doane College.
  • Multi-event athletes traveled east to Pella, Iowa and competed in the Dutch Early Bird Pentathlon at Central College.
Graduate Classic
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Freshman Steven Dalmeida ran a 6.96 in the 60 meter dash preliminaries. His time helped him finish eighth overall in the preliminaries and claim the seventh fastest time in school history.
  • Garrett Lenners ran a personal best time of 2:29.08 in the 1,000 meter run, earning him the third fastest time in school history. 
  • Hurdler Eli Etherton ran an 8.14 in the 60 meter hurdle preliminaries. His time helped him qualify for finals and claim the second fastest time in program history. Eli would earn fourth place in the 60 meter hurdle finals.
  • Fellow hurdler Trystin Myers qualified for finals by running a 8.46 in the 60 meter hurdle preliminaries. This was the ninth fastest time in school history. Trystin finished sixth overall in the 60 meter hurdle finals.
  • The men's A-team 4x400 meter relay consisting of Kyle Dickinson, Ben Christenson, Gabe Anderson, and Garrett Lenners finished third overall. 
  • Gabby Thomas finished 12th overall in the 1 Mile run. She finished with a time of 5:13.69.
  • Kynzi Booth ran a 8.01 in the qualifying round of the 60 meter dash. In the finals she topped her prelim time by running a 7.96 and setting a new personal best.
  • Freshman Delaney Vacek finished 10th overall with a time of 2:25.68 in the 800 meter run.
  • The women's 4x400 meter relay consisting of Isabella Hilger, Alexa Koza, Gabby Thomas, and Bella Hogue finished sixth overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Morgan Conner won the men's long jump with a jump of  23' 8''. This places him at seventh in school history.
  • Ellie Akough threw 53' 4.5'' in the women's weight throw. This throw helped her to a fifth place finish and was the fifth best throw in school history.
  • Emily Druse earned a tie for second place in the women's pole vault with a vault of 9' 9''.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tanner Johnson finished with 2,640 points, this earned him the 9th best score in program history.
  • Keegan Casey finished with 2,527 points, this helped him move into 10th in school history.

  • Tanner Johnson finished:
    • 1st in the men's 60 meter hurdles earning him 816 points.
    • 8th in the men's long jump earning him 437 points.
    • 5th in the men's shot put earning him 468 points.
    • 8th in the men's high jump earning him 426 points.
    • 6th in the men's 1,000 meter run earning him 493 points.
  • Keegan Casey finished:
    • 9th in the men's 60 meter hurdles earning him 482 points.
    • 6th in the men's long jump earning him 490 points.
    • 9th in the men's shot put earning him 389 points.
    • 7th in the men's high jump earning him 449 points.
    • 1st in the men's 1,000 meter run earning him 717 points.
COACH TED BULLING'S COMMENTS:
  • "We had a fantastic first weekend. We had two performances that should qualify for the Indoor NCAA Championship in March."
UP NEXT
The Prairie Wolves host the Prairie Wolf Invite on January 20th, 2023. The meet starts at 1 p.m. and will be at both the Bob Devaney Sports Center and Knight Fieldhouse.
