DUBUQUE, Iowa. (March 20, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team splits its American Rivers Conference season-opening doubleheader on the road in Dubuque, Iowa. NWU defeated Dubuque, 7-2, then fell almost upset Loras, 5-4. 

In the opening match, the Prairie Wolves raced out to a quick 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches. Ryan Carey and Will Olson won at the top spot, 8-4, as Jacob Balfany and Max Rademacher won at No. 2 Doubles, 8-1. Hayden Retzlaff and Connor Kelley took the final point at No. 3 Doubles, 8-3.

Olson then earned another point at No. 2 Singles with a 6-0, 7-5 victory. Jacob Balfany cruised at No. 3 Singles 6-0, 6-1. Daniel Bernhardson won a point at No. 5 Singles after a withdrawal and Hayden Retzlaff easily won at No. 6 Singles, 6-2, 6-1. 

Against the Duhawks, NWU picked up a point from Hayden Retzlaff and Connor Kelley at No. 3 Doubles, 8-5. Nebraska Wesleyan picked three points in singles play, with one point from Will Olson, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 Singles. Balfany added a point at No. 3 Singles, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. The final point came in a hard-fought match from Hayden Retzlaff, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7).
