Decorah, Iowa (September 25, 2021) -- The first American Rivers Conference multi-school event of the 2021-22 academic year took place at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa on Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25, with over 100 players competing in the event. Rain forced a shortened day one, resulting in an adjusted scoring format the remainder of the tournament.
In the first round, Nebraska Wesleyan's Ryan Carey and Will Olsen won their first match in the A-Doubles, 8-6. However, the team was defeated in the quarterfinals.
In the B-Doubles, Daniel Bernhardsen and Cole Lohoefener cruised to an 8-0 victory. Jacob Balfany and Hayden Retzlaff also earned an 8-0 victory in their match. Balfany and Retzlaff then won their next match, 8-2 and picked up an 8-2 win in the quartfinals. The duo fell in semifinals by a score of 8-1 to the eventual B-Doubles Champions.
For singles action, Ryan Carey went 1-1 in A-Singles with a 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 in the first round. Cole Lohoefener also went 1-1 in B-Singles. Lohoefener won the first match by retirement.
