PELLA, Iowa (April 30, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan baseball (10-25, 8-20 A-R-C) dropped its doubleheader at Central College (12-19, 9-16 A-R-C) in Pella, Iowa. NWU fell in extra innings in game one, 4-3 (9 innings) and dropped game two, 8-3. The Prairie Wolves hit three doubles in game two, which puts their season total at 69 doubles, the most since the 2009 season.
Game One Recap
Nebraska Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Noah Unger hit a single to right field, the hit plated Kaleb Knox and Derek Kolbush. After Central answered with three runs in the fourth, a bases-loaded walk drawn by Alex Angele allowed Aaron Nichols to score and tie the game in the top of the seventh inning and force extra innings. After holding the Dutch scoreless in the eighth inning, they scored a run in the bottom of the ninth for their second walk-off win in the series.Â
Game Two Recap
The Prairie Wolves jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first inning. Will Schneidewind doubled to left field, which drove in John Haimowitz for the game's first run. After Central added runs in the second and third innings, NWU cut into the lead with two runs in the seventh. Derek Kolbush scored the first run of the inning when CC traded a run for a double-play ball. Aaron Nichols then connected on the third Nebraska Wesleyan double of the game to score Haimowitz before Central got out of the inning.
What's Next
Nebraska Wesleyan is off until Thursday, May 13 when it hosts Buena Vista for a doubleheader at NWU Field. It will be the first home game for the Prairie Wolves since April 11.Â
