LINCOLN, Neb. (May 13, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan baseball (11-26, 9-21 A-R-C) split its doubleheaders with Buena Vista (18-20, 14-16 A-R-C). The Prairie Wolves fell in game one, 5-0, then stormed past the Beavers, 15-1, in game two to win by run-rule. The 15 runs in game two is the most scored by NWU in a single-game since March 15, 2019.
Game One Recap
BVU kept the NWU bats quiet as they allowed just four hits in the game. Angel Reynoso tossed a complete game with five strikeouts for the Prairie Wolves. It was Reynoso's fourth complete game of the season. Defensively, Nebraska Wesleyan forced Buena Vista to hit into three double plays. Â
Game Two Recap
The Prairie Wolf bats would not be kept quiet in game two as they went off for five runs and batted through the lineup in the first inning. John Haimowitz ripped a triple to score Riley Ward and Kaleb Knox for NWU's first two runs. In the next at-bat, Alex Angele's single plated Haimowitz. Later in the inning, Angele scored off of a sacrifice fly from Aaron Nichols. The rally was capped off with an RBI double from Mason Bennett to score Will Schneidewind.Â
The offense continued in the third inning with a pair of home runs. Noah Wing hit a two-run home run to left-center field, Wing's first home run of the season. A few batters later, Derek Kolbush went over the fence for a solo home run. It was Kolbush's eighth home run of the season, which ranks fifth-most in a season for program history.Â
In the fourth inning, Nebraska Wesleyan added three more runs. Riley Ward scored off of a single from Schneidewind before Haimowitz scored on a wild pitch. Schneidewind was plated on a single up the middle from Wing.
The Prairie Wolves lit the scoreboard up again in the fifth inning with four runs. The scoring started with three RBI singles from Angele, Nichols, and Wing. Kolbush then drove in the game's final run with a double to left-center field.Â
NWU's Josh Seifert and Hayden Parker combined to strikeout 10 batters, Seifert was credited with six strikeouts and Parker registered four strikeouts, over six innings. Parker allowed no hits in 2 â…” innings with Seifert scattering just three hits in 4 â…“ innings of work. The duo only issued two walks in the 29 batters they faced.Â
