Kolbush Records Eight RBIs In Game One, NWU Splits With Central College

PELLA, Iowa (April 30, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan baseball (10-23, 8-18 A-R-C) split its doubleheader at Central College (10-19, 7-16 A-R-C) in Pella, Iowa. NWU won game one, 13-1, and dropped game two on a walk-off, 8-7.

Derek Kolbush collected eight RBIs in game one, the most in a single game since the Prairie Wolves joined the American Rivers Conference. The last time NWU had a player record at least seven RBIs was on April 23, 2002.

Game One Recap
NWU stormed past CC with eight RBIs from Derek Kolbush and a gem on the mound from Angel Reynoso. After Mason Bennett plated the first run of the game on an RBI single, Kolbush smashed a grand slam to right-center field for a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning.

An inning later, John Haimowitz cranked a solo home run to left field then Alex Angele hit a sacrifice fly to score Noah Unger for the second run of the inning. Bennett drew a bases-loaded walk to score Paul Georget before Kolbush hit a single to bring in two more runs, with an error allowing a third run to score and make it an 11-0 lead.

The Dutch scored their first run of the game in sixth but the Prairie Wolves answered with two more runs in the seventh. Kolbush finished off the game with a double to right field, which scored Bennett and Aaron Nichols.

Angel Reynoso threw a complete game on the mound for Nebraska Wesleyan. He scattered just five hits with zero walks and six strikeouts to pick up his third win of the season.

Game Two Recap
The Prairie Wolves couldn't carry the momentum on the mound into game two as Central scored a run in the eighth inning to tie the game and a run in the ninth inning to win game two. The Dutch scored the game's first run in the first inning but the Prairie Wolves came back with four runs in the fourth inning.

Will Schneidewind hit a sacrifice fly to plate Noah Unger for the first NWU run before Aaron Nichols used a single to score Paul Georget. Derek Kolbush then ripped a single to score Alex Angele. A wild pitch allowed Nichols to score for the fourth run.

CC put a run-up in the fifth inning then a half-inning later, Angele hit his first home run of the season to make it a 5-2 advantage. Central took the lead in the sixth but Kolbush homered in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Kaleb Knox used a sacrifice fly from John Haimowitz to give Nebraska Wesleyan the lead back at 7-6.
