Baseball Walks-Off Wartburg In Game One, Use Deep Ball To Complete Doubleheader Sweep

LINCOLN, Neb. (April 2, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan baseball (4-12, 2-8 A-R-C) swept a doubleheader against Wartburg (6-10, 4-6 A-R-C) for its first back-to-back wins in conference play this year. NWU scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win game one, 7-6, then blasted three home runs to win game two, 14-4, in eight innings.

Game One Recap
Nebraska Wesleyan's Kaleb Knox knocked in the game-winning run to win game one in walk-off fashion. Knox's fielder's choice drove in Derek Kolbush to cap a four-run seventh inning. The comeback started when Alex Angele scored off a wild pitch. Kolbush then hit a double, which plated Mason Bennett and Riley Ward, to tie the game up at 6-6.

The Prairie Wolves scored the game's first run when a two-out error allowed Noah Unger to cross home. After the Knights put up a run in the third inning and four more in the top of the fifth inning, NWU cut the deficit with a run in the fifth and sixth. Will Schneidewind scored in the fifth off a Riley Ward single and John Haimowitz scored off a Knox grounder.

Game Two Recap
Nebraska Wesleyan carried its hot streak over to game two as Riley Ward cranked a home run to left field on the first pitch of the first at-bat of the game. Noah Unger tallied another run in the inning with a single to score Derek Kolbush. Wartburg scored once in the second but NWU answered with an RBI groundout from Mason Bennett.

In the third and fourth innings, Kaleb Knox and Will Schneidewind both went deep to left field. It was Knox's second home run in two games as Schneidewind recorded his first home run of the season.

The Prairie Wolves tacked on three runs in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings. The fifth inning scoring was highlighted by RBI singles from Unger and Alex Angele then an RBI double by Aaron Nichols. Nichols knocked another double in the seventh to score Angele before a bases loaded walk scored John Haimowitz and a Knox single plated Ward. In the eighth, an RBI single from Nichols brought in Angele with Ward's double scoring Nichols and Kolbush knocking a single to drive in Bennett to put the run-rule into effect.
