Baseball Takes Series Against University of the Ozarks

LINCOLN, Neb. (March 13, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team bested the University of the Ozarks in a three-game series. After dropping game one, NWU bounced back to win game two on Friday and game three on Saturday. The Prairie Wolves outscored the Eagles 21-9 in the final two games.

Game One Recap
After the University of the Ozarks scored a run in the top of the third inning, Alex Angele evened the game at one run apiece with an RBI single that drove in Trayven Boellstorff. However, the Eagle responded with a three-run sixth-inning and another run in the seventh inning.

Game Two Recap
The Prairie Wolves found their offensive firepower in game two. After UO took a one-run lead in the second inning, NWU answered back with two runs in the third inning. Derek Kolbush's sacrifice fly to right field brought in Mason Bennett for the first run. Later in the inning, John Haimowitz scored off a Noah Unger single to give Nebraska Wesleyan a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, back-to-back doubles from Kaleb Knox and Noah Unger sparked a two-out rally. Unger's double scored Knox then a single from Angel Reynoso scored him. An inning later, the Prairie Wolves added two more runs. First, a sacrifice bunt from Will Schneidewind scored Mason Bennett then a sacrifice fly from Knox scored Kolbush. After Ozarks added two runs in the seventh, NWU added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning when Paul Georget scored on a wild pitch. Nebraska Wesleyan pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts in the game two win.

Game Three Recap
The rubber match of the series was highlighted by NWU scoring 11 runs in the first four innings. Kaleb Knox knocked a first-inning double to the left-center gap to score Will Schneidewind and Derek Kolbush. Knox recorded another RBI in the third when John Haimowitz scored off his single. Noah Unger plated Haimowitz a few batters later as Knox turned an Eagles' error into another run.

A huge fourth inning blew the game open for Nebraska Wesleyan. The scoring started when Kolbush plated Aaron Nichols on a single. Mason Bennett scored off a Schneidewind single through the middle and a Haimowitz double brought in Kolbush. Kaleb Knox cleared the bases in the next at-bat with a three-run home run. Ozarks would cut into the deficit with three runs in the sixth but NWU answered with a two-run RBI double from Alex Angele in the bottom of the inning. In the seventh, Mason Bennett went deep with a home run to left-center to finish off the scoring.
