Men Clinch Postseason Tournament Berth With Win in Dubuque

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team clinched a spot in the 2019 American Rivers Conference postseason tournament with a 6-3 victory over the University of Dubuque on Saturday morning (April 27) in Dubuque, Iowa.  Later in the day the Prairie Wolves dropped a 7-2 decision to Loras College.
 
With the victory, the Prairie Wolves end the regular season with a 3-5 conference record to finish at least 6th in the league standings and the top six teams qualify for the tournament.  It is the second time in the last three years that NWU has made the postseason.
 
The 2019 A-R-C Tournament begins on May 3 and will be hosted by Top-seeded Coe College who won the conference.  Official pairings will be released later by the conference office.
 
NWU started the Dubuque match by winning two out of three doubles matches.  Nathan Seaton and Jared Scherling won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, then Vinh Le and Cole Lohoefener won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
 
In singles play, the Prairie Wolves continued their solid play by winning four of the six matches.  Spencer Anderson won in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) at No. 2 singles.  Scherling was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles, Le won convincingly 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Matt Errett defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
 
Against Loras College, NWU lost all three doubles matches.  The No. 1 doubles match was very competitive with Riley Michel & Sean Baldwin of Loras winning 9-7 over Gabriel Sellmer and Spencer Anderson.
 
Sellmer was able to win his singles match at the No. 1 spot.  He defeated Charlie Harris 6-3, 6-2 as one of the two Prairie Wolves victories.  Jared Scherling was the other NWU winner getting a 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 victory at No. 3 singles.
 
NWU now prepares for the postseason tournament that begins on Friday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
