LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan University wrestling team went 2-1 on Saturday (Dec. 14) when they hosted the Prairie Wolf Duals inside Snyder Arena.
NWU opened the day with a 48-7 victory over Central Christian College, then fell to Concordia University (Minn.) 41-10 in round two. The Prairie Wolves closed the day with a. 36-18 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering.
The Prairie Wolves are now 3-3 overall in duals for the 2019-20 season.
In the opening victory over CCC, the Prairie Wolves started the dual with three straight falls.
Tyler Laudick (125),
Van Schmidt (133) and
Ryan Smales (141) each recorded falls to put NWU ahead 18-0.
Derek Wortman (157),
Alex Kerr (197) and
Justin Hennessy (285) also added wins by fall for the Prairie Wolves over the Tigers.
Nathan Hunt won by forfeit at 165 to close out the NWU point total.
Against the Cobbers of Concordia, the Prairie Wolves had two wins in the dual.
Zeth Gerkensmeyer won by major decision over Gabe Allen 11-14 at 157 and Hennessy recorded another fall at 285 over Austin Ratfliff.
To conclude the day of wrestling, the Prairie Wolves had four wins by fall over MSOE. Schmidt (133),
Keegan Casey (141), Hunt (165) and Kerr (197) each won by fall. Hennessy won his match by injury default 46 seconds into the match as he went 3-0 on the day.
This is the final competition for the NWU wrestling team for over a month as they are next on the mat on Jan. 18 at the Dubuque duals.
