LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan University will have nine athletes competing at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships that will be held on March 9-10 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. Seven women and two men athletes have qualified for the track & field championships for the Prairie Wolves.
NWU has three women that have qualified for the championships in two different events. Starting with Kaylee and
Elizabeth Jones who both qualified in the 400 meters and the 4x400 relay. Kaylee enters the NCAA III Championships with the 3
rd fastest time in the nation in the 400 at 55.59, while Elizabeth is 10
th at 56.46.
The Jones sisters team up with
Aspen Rolfes and
Anna Frazier on the 4x400 relay team that enters the national meet with the 2
nd fastest time in the country at 3:49.21. Kaylee and
Elizabeth Jones were part of the 4x400 relay teams that won three straight NCAA III National Championships and Frazier was on the 4x400 relay team in 2016 that placed 6
th to earn All-American honors.
Rolfes is the other NWU athlete competing in two events as she is in the 4x400 relay and qualified for the 200 meters in her freshman season. Rolfes time of 25.17 is 16
th in the nation and the second fastest time in school history.
SteaVen Becker and
Dayton Dolincheck are making repeat national appearances in the women's shot put. Becker placed 6
th at the 2017 Indoor Championships to earn All-America recognition. She enters this year's championship with the 3
rd best mark in that nation at 47-11, ranking third on the NWU all-time charts. Dolincheck comes into the championships ranked 13
th with her mark of 44-11.5, the sixth best toss in school history.
The final qualifier for the NWU women is
Jodi Koellner in the weight throw. Koellner ranks 17
th in the weight throw at 55-6.25. She has qualified the past two years for outdoor nationals, but this is her first indoor nationals appearance.
SteaVen Becker (Scottsbluff, Neb.) and
Dayton Dolincheck (Bellevue, Neb.) both will be competing in the event. Becker enters the meet with the 8
th best mark in the country at 13.98, while Dolincheck is 17
th at 13.64.
Two NWU men are representing the Prairie Wolves at NCAA III Indoor Nationals. Sophomore
Trent Koehler is making a repeat appearance in the men's long jump. Koehler has a mark of 23-7.25 to enter the meet ranked 11
th in the nation. He was 13
th last year in the long jump.
Senior
Mamer Mamer qualified in the 200 meters, making his first appearance in an individual event. Mamer ran a time of 21.79 that ranks 15
th in the nation entering the championships. That time is 4
th on the NWU all-time charts. Mamer qualified for outdoor nationals last year in the 4x100 relay.
