Box Score 2 LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday (Feb. 10) in Knight Fieldhouse. NWU opened the day with a 8-1 loss to Hastings College in the morning, then closed the day with a narrow 5-4 setback to Baker University.
NWU is now 0-3 in duals to start the spring season.
In the close match versus Baker, the Prairie Wolves got ahead 2-1 after doubles play.
Adam Olson and
Hale Breit won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and the No. 3 doubles team won by forfeit.
The Prairie Wolves gained another point by forfeit at No. 6 singles, but the only other singles win was at the No. 2 spot.
Hale Breit defeated Gabriel Marques 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in the closest match of the day.
At No. 1 singles,
Adam Olson also took his opponent to three sets and came up just short falling 6-3, 4-6, 10-1 to Thomas Irick.
Against Hastings, the Prairie Wolves picked up their lone win of the day at No. 6 singles.
Jared Scherling won 6-2, 6-2 over Ben Petry to claim NWU's only victory.
Once again, Olson played a close three-set match at No. 1 singles dropping a 7-5, 5-7, 10-4 decision to Adnan Mehmedovic.
In doubles, the No. 3 team of Scherling and
Caleb Thiessen lost 9-8 on a 7-4 tiebreaker in a tightly contested match.
Nebraska Wesleyan will be back in action on Feb. 24 when they host Bethel College.
