DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team picked up a pair of 5-4 Iowa Conference victories on Saturday in Dubuque, Iowa defeating University of Dubuque and Loras College.
With their victories, the Prairie Wolves improve to 3-3 in IIAC play to sit in fifth place in the league standings with the top six making the conference tournament at the end of the year. NWU is 5-11 overall on the year.
Against Dubuque, the Prairie Wolves won two of three in doubles action.
Adam Olson and Matheus dos Santon won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and
Jared Scherling and
Jordan Pieper were 8-3 winners at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Both teams won three singles matches to give NWU the conference win.
Adam Olson won 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 over Matthew Sablay at No. 2 singles. Matheus dos Santon won 6-2, 6-0 over Jordan Hamling at No. 5 singles and
Christian Cannon was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles.
Later in the day the Prairie Wolves used the same recipe to defeat Loras College. They won two doubles matches and three singles matches in the win.
The duo of Olson/dos Santon won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and Pieper/Scherling were 8-4 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Hale Breit was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Riley Michel at No. 3 singles to get the winning started for NWU. dos Santon won 6-4, 6-4 over Erix Zirzow with Cannon winning 6-3, 6-0 over Quin Cockerill to complete the day.
