CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan University men's tennis team opened the Iowa Conference portion of their schedule with a pair of road losses in Iowa. NWU fell to Central College 7-2 on Friday afternoon, then dropped a 9-0 decision at Coe College on Saturday morning.
NWU and Central played three very competitive doubles matches to open their dual. The Prairie Wolves picked up one win as
Jordan Pieper and
Nathan Seaton won 9-7 over Tom Palmer and Sam Dykstra at No. 3 doubles. The Dutch took the other two doubles matches in a score of 9-8 at No. 1 doubles and 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.
Central then won five of the six singles matches to earn the dual victory. The lone win for the Prairie Wolves came at No. 1 singles as
Pedro Bethlem won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 over Garret Taylor. The Dutch won the other five singles matches in straight sets.
Facing the No. 9 ranked team in the region and 36
th-ranked team in the nation, the Prairie Wolves lost 9-0 at Coe College. The Kohawks, who improved to 13-4 overall and 3-0 in IIAC action won all singles matches in straight sets. Coe won all three doubles matches in scores of 8-0, 8-1, 8-0.
