SEWARD, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan snapped their long losing streak as the Prairie Wolves defeated Concordia University 7-5 in game two of a GPAC baseball doubleheader on a cold Friday afternoon (April 29) in Seward, Neb. Concordia won the first game of the doubleheader 4-3.

With the victory, the Prairie Wolves ended their streak of 14 straight losses and get their first win since April 3.

Nebraska Wesleyan jumped ahead 4-0 in the second game as they plated four runs through the first three innings.Â
Tyler Winterstein walked to open the game and came around to score on a single to centerfield by
Joe Babic. NWU added two runs in the top of the 2
nd inning.Â
James McKain singled, followed up by an RBI double from
Justus Stocks. Stocks then scored on a single by Winterstein.Â
Chase Powers got an RBI single in the top of the 3
rd inning to give NWU the 4-0 lead.

Concordia responded with two runs in the 3
rd inning to cut the Prairie Wolves lead in half. They scored again in the bottom of the 5
th to make the score 4-3.

Needing to respond, the Prairie Wolves took advantage of a Concordia error to open the top of the 7
th. McKain and Powers each hit RBI singles to get NWU back up by three runs at 6-3. One more insurance run came in the top of the 9
th inning.Â
Matt Orozco walked then would score on a double steal.
Â
That insurance run proved to be big as Concordia plated two runs in the bottom of the 9
th inning and had the tying run at the plate. That would be as close as they could get.

Freshman
Brody Murphy improved to 6-4 on the season as he had a very solid outing on the mound. Murphy went seven innings allowing just three earned runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked three batters.Â
Dalton Hinrichs pitched a scoreless 8
th inning, then
Pete Sitorius pitched the 9
th allowing the two runs.

Seniors
Joe Babic and
Chase Powers both had three hits to lead the NWU offense. Powers was 3-3 with two RBI, while Babic was 3-5 with one RBI.

Game one got off to a rough start for the Prairie Wolves as Concordia jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1
st inning. The Bulldogs got five hits in the opening inning before NWU stopped the scoring with a double play.

NWU slowly chipped away, starting in the 2
nd inning as Concordia committed an error with the bases loaded to allow a run to score. The Bulldogs did strike the next batter out to keep the bases loaded.

Once again NWU took advantage of a Bulldog error in the 4
th inning to extend the inning.Â
Pete Sitorius hit a sacrifice fly and
Matt Orozco hit an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3.

The game stayed tied until the 6
th inning, despite NWU having several scoring opportunities. Finally, Concordia got the lead as they used a lead-off walk and a Prairie Wolves error to score the game-winning run.Â

Nebraska Wesleyan went down 1-2-3 in the 7
th inning to give the Bulldogs the victory.Â
Caleb Thiessen took the loss allowing three earned runs in six innings of work. He gave up just two hits after the first inning and struck out four. NWU had only five hits in the game, all singles by five different players.
