FREMONT, Neb. – The 2016 baseball season for Nebraska Wesleyan came to a close on Monday with a pair of losses at Midland University in the final GPAC doubleheader of the year. The Warriors won the first game 9-1 then took game two 3-0.
NWU finished the year with a 12-28 overall record and a 3-17 mark in GPAC play. Midland claimed the GPAC regular season championship on Monday with their sweep and they now host the GPAC Postseason Tournament.

Warrior pitcher Keifer Musiel controlled the NWU bats in the opening game as he held NWU to only four hits and struck out nine batters. He retired 12 straight batters from the second inning through the sixth.

The lone Nebraska Wesleyan run came in the top of the 6
th inning.Â
Aaron Ochsner led off with a walk and eventually scored on a single by
Matt Orozco.

Midland opened the game with a home run on their first batter of the bottom of the first inning. Two errors extended the inning before a 3-run HR capped the inning as Midland led 4-0 early. The Warriors scored three more runs in the 3
rd inning on another 3-run HR. They finishes the scoring in the 6
th innin as another error extended the inning.

Joe Babic and
Mark Korsakas both had doubles, while Orozco and
Sam Ayars each singled to compile the four hits.Â
Jordan Haas took the loss allowing nine runs, four earned on eight hits over six innings. He walked four and struck out three.

The NWU bats didn't get on track in the second game either as they were limited to just two hits over nine innings of play.

Midland pitcher Torey Escamilla had a perfect game through 6 1/3 innings before
Sam Ayars broke it up with a single. Escamilla got the complete game shutout victory with 10 strikeouts and just one walk. NWU struck out a total of 19 times in the doubleheader on Monday.

Jordyn Johnson had a solid outing in his final game in a Prairie Wolves uniform, but it wasn't as good as Escamilla. Johnson also threw a complete game with 8 innings of work. He scattered eight hits, striking out six and allowing three earned runs.

Cole Gray hit a solo HR in the third inning, then Midland used a pair of doubles to score two runs in the fourth inning for the Warriors three runs.
