LINCOLN, Neb – In the last ever meeting between rivals Nebraska Wesleyan and Doane, the two old rivals combined to score 51 total runs in the high scoring double affair that the Tigers took both games. Doane won game won 19-13 then held on to win the second game 10-9.

With the wind blowing out and runs at a premium, the two teams hit a total of nine home runs and both teams providing plenty of big hits in the GPAC doubleheader. With the two losses, NWU has now lost a school record 13 straight games.

On a day that was celebrating the life of NWU legendary coach Ron Bachman, Doane took all the energy out of the crowd right away.  The first two pitches of the game resulted in a hit and that was followed up by a 3-run home run as Doane quickly led 4-0 in the first inning.

NWU broke out of their scoring slump in the bottom of the 1
st inning as
Tyler Winterstein hit he first pitch of the inning over the fence for a solo home run. Later in the inning,
Mark Korsakas blasted a 3-run home run over the left field wall. Three batters later
Justus Stocks kept the home run party going as he sent a 2-run shot over the left field wall to put NWU up 6-4.

The high scoring continued as each team scored in every inning until the bottom of the 5
th inning.  Doane was also swinging a big bat as they clubbed seven doubles with four home runs.Â

Nebraska Wesleyan finished with 15 total hits in the game, compared to 22 for the Tigers. Both teams struggled in the field as they combined for nine errors.

Game two got off to a rough start for the Prairie Wolves as they allowed five runs in the top of the first inning. All five runs were unearned as Doane took advantage of a key NWU error and blasted a three-run home run.   The Tigers continued their hit parade and led 8-1 after three innings.

In the 4
th inning, the Prairie Wolves erupted for a big inning. The Prairie Wolves scored six runs in the bottom of the 4
th, all unearned runs as Doane committed three errors. One of the big hits of the day was
Tyler Winterstein's 2-run double.Â

Doane maintained their lead and had a 10-7 advantage heading into the bottom of the 9
th inning.

Not wanting to give up on senior day in the last meeting with their arch rival, the Prairie Wolves. Â
Justus Stocks hit a lead-off single. Freshman Brooke Johnson then came up and drove the ball over the left field wall to cut the lead to 10-9.

Still with no outs, the NWU rally continued. Tyler Wintestein singled to center field then
Sam Ayars got a bunt single to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd with no outs.Â
Matt Orozco attempted to bunt but popped it up and which resulted in a double play. The next batter struck out to leave the potential game-winners on base.

Senior pitcher
Jordyn Johnson threw all he had in his final home game. The senior went 7.0 innings allowing five earned runs. He struck out four batters in his 140 pitch effort.

Sam Ayars was 3-5 to lead the way.Â
