Defenders Shut Down NWU Women 72-40

Box Score SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Dordt College outscored Nebraska Wesleyan 21-3 in the second quarter to build up a 28-point halftime lead and they cruised to a 72-40 victory over the Prairie Wolves in GPAC women's basketball action on Saturday (1/9) in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Prairie Wolves, who have now lost eight straight, were ahead of the Defenders entering the game.  Dordt had lost 10 straight games, but got back on the winning track in a big way on Saturday afternoon.

NWU shot only 21.9 percent from the field and made only eight field goals the through the first three quarters.  The Prairie Wolves did outscore the Defenders 20-8 in the 4th quarter.

Dordt College shot 51.6 percent in the first half as they built up a 42-14 lead at halftime.  The Defenders then continued in the third quarter outscoring NWU 22-6 in the first 10 minutes of the second half until reserves played out the fourth quarter.

Nebraska Wesleyan was 14-64 from the field and 2-20 from 3-point range in the game.  The Prairie Wolves did hit 10-15 at the free throw line. NWU also had 14 turnovers.

Courtney Cook led NWU with eight points and five rebounds in 20 minutes of action.  Kelly Sanchez came off the bench to score seven points.

Dordt held a big advantage in the paint as they outrebounded the Prairie Wolves 53-37.  Mycah Hulst had a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Defenders.
