LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan's young men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches over the weekend to Ottawa University and Augustana College.
In the home opener, the Prairie Wolves fell 7-2 to Ottawa on Friday night (Jan. 30) at Woods Park. The Prairie Wolves picked up two points by default as Ottawa did not have a No. 6 singles player or a No. 3 doubles team.
The Braves won both doubles matches 8-1 to take the early advantage. In singles play, three of the five matches went three sets.
Raj Selvaraj rallied to defeat
Pedro Bethlem 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Brandon Edwards defeated
Andrew Finkner 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 for the rally victory at No. 4 singles while Austin Hale came back to defeat
Jordan Pieper 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 at No. 5 singles. All three of the losses saw NWU get the first set lead but they were unable to seal the win.
On Sunday at Sioux Falls, the NCAA Division II Augustana College Vikings remained undefeated with a 9-0 win over the Prairie Wolves. Augustana won all six singles matches in straight sets and took the three doubles matches in scores of 8-2, 8-0 and 8-1.
