Track & Field Has Successful Opening Weekend

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Nebraska Wesleyan University track & field teams had a successful start to the 2015 Indoor season over the weekend with athletes competing at the Holiday Inn Invitational at the Devaney Center and the Scott Nisely Invitational in Crete.

Highlighting the weekend were some top performances on the track at the Holiday Inn Invitational.  For the NWU women, sophomore Katie Krick ran two solid races in the sprints.  She had a time of 58.09 in the 400 meters which is the second best time in NWU history.  Krick placed seventh in the race, behind five Division I runners and a Division II runner.  Her time is the best time in the conference this year and the No. 6 time in NCAA III.  She also ran the 200 meters in a time of 26.02, which was a new personal best and the 7th best time in school history.

Gabi Jenkins carried over her strong cross country season into the track year by opening the year placing third in the 5000 meter run.  She was just behind a Division I and junior college runner in the race with her time of 17:35.69.

For the men on the track at the Holiday Inn Invite, sophomore Garrett Teel got the year started off with a top time in the 600.  Teel ran a 1:21.33 in the 600 to finish seventh behind only runners from the University of Nebraska.  His time is the best in the GPAC and the 3rd fastest time in school history.  Teel also ran the opening leg of the 4x400 relay team that posted a time of 3:22.48, the second best time in the GPAC this year.   Joining Teel on the relay team were Zach Holka, Justin Moerer and Tanner Dewey.

Tanner Brown also had a top five finish on the track at the Holiday Inn Invite as he ran a time of 8:46.45 to place 5th in the 3,000 meters.

All the field event competitors took part in the Scott Nisely Invitational in Crete on Saturday.  For the women, the throwers had some good marks in their first event of the year.   Zoey Rada entered the NWU top 10 charts in the shot put with a toss of 41-7.75, placing 10th in the event.  Samantha Dolezal was just behind Rada in the shot put and had a mark of 48-10.25 in the weight throw.

For the NWU men, Garrett Sellhorst began the year with a good mark in the triple jump placing third in the event.  Sellhorst jumped 46-8.25, the 6th best jump in NCAA III this season.
