The Nebraska Wesleyan University men's tennis team finished up their annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on a strong note as they won the final two matches of the trip. NWU finished 2-3 overall on the trip to sit at 6-6 on the season.
NWU defeated Centre College 6-3 on Thursday (Mar. 27) for their first win of the trip, then closed out the trip with an 8-1 win over Concordia University (Wis.) on Friday. In the win over Centre, NWU went 2-1 in doubles play and won four singles matches.
Lucas Asnis and Gui Plentz won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, while
Rene Torti and
Trevor Milburn were 8-5 winners at No. 2 doubles. Plentz was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 2 singles, Zach Hicks won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, Torti was 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles and
Seth Shimerda rounded out the Prairie Wolves wins with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
To close out the trip against Concordia, the Prairie Wolves swept all three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches. The only loss of the day was at No. 1 singles as Russell Johnson from Concordia defeated
Lucas Asnis 7-6 (10-4), 6-1. NWU won the other five singles matches in straight sets and had little trouble in their doubles victories.
The Prairie Wolves opened the trip with a 6-3 loss to St. Thomas (Minn.) on March 23. They fell, 9-0, to Carleton College the following day and dropped a 7-2 decision to Colby College on March 25.
NWU will open GPAC play this week with a match against Doane College on April 1.
