Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team got their first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 1) as they defeated Augustana College (S.D.) 5-4 in the home opener at Woods Park in Lincoln.

The Prairie Wolves opened the 2014 season on Friday night with a 9-0 loss at NCAA I University of Nebraska-Omaha at Hanscom park in Omaha, Neb.

In the win over the NCAA II VIkings, Gui Plentz and Rene Torti won their singles matches.  Plentz won at No. 2 singles over Collin Noldner 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.  Torti needed just two sets to defeat Brock Baade 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.  NWU had two more singles wins by forfet at #5 and #6.

Augustana won both doubles matches getting a 8-2 win at #1 doubles and 8-4 at #2 doubles.  The Prairie Wolves also picked up a point at #3 doubles by forfeit.

NWU held their own against the Division I Mavericks on Friday night in the season opener.  Several matches were decided by tie breaker.  In doubles play, James McManus and Lukas Vanzura defeated Zack Hicks and Seth Shimerday 9-8 (11-8) at #3 doubles.  The most exciting singles match was at #4 singles where UNO's Erik Anderson defeated Rene Torti 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (15-13).
