The Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball team went nearly nine minutes of the first half without a field goal and Morningside College took advantage in a 81-71 victory over the Prairie Wolves on Saturday (Dec. 14) in Sioux City, Iowa.
Morningside built up a 14-point lead midway through the first half and the Prairie Wolves couldn't recover from the deficit giving them their third loss of the season. The Mustangs improve to 7-4, 4-2 GPAC with NWU falling to 6-3, 2-3 GPAC.
Eric Jackson made a layup for the Prairie Wolves early in the game to go ahead 5-3 with 18:27 to play. NWU did not make another field goal until
Trevor Johnson ended the drought with a basket at the 9:50 mark of the first half ending a 19-3 run for the Mustangs.
NWU did chip away at the lead and trailed just 32-26 at the halftime break. The Prairie Wolves pulled within four points early in the second half, but a quick 10-2 run over a three minute stretch got the lead back to double digits for good.
Four players scored in double figures for the Prairie Wolves who shot 45.6 percent from the field.Â
Trevor Johnson had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lead NWU in all three categories.Â

Andrew Mitteis each scored 13 points. Bardsley and Mitteis both connected on three 3-pointers.
Morningside hit 57.8 percent from the floor, going 14-22 in the second half missing just eight shots the entire half.
Danny Rudeen had a huge game for the Mustangs scoring 33 points. Rudeen was 6-8 from 3-point range and 9-11 at the free throw line. Steve O'Neill added 21 points.
