INDIANOLA, Iowa — The Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team wasted little time making its presence felt on the road, sweeping doubles play before winning all six singles matches to defeat Simpson College 7-0 Thursday afternoon at the Simpson College Tennis Courts.
The Prairie Wolves improved to 5-7 and 3-2 in American Rivers Conference play with the victory, while Simpson fell to 3-15 overall and 0-5 in the A-R-C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nebraska Wesleyan opened the match by sweeping all three doubles positions. Ashton Rames and Sam Rademacher got things started at No. 1 doubles with a 6-4 decision over Grant Love and Hudson Christie. Zac Briggs and Ian Armbrust made quick work of Seth Orta and Blane Wallace at No. 2, claiming a 6-1 win. Riley Voss and Glenn McChristian closed out the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph at No. 3.
The Prairie Wolves carried that momentum into singles and never looked back. Briggs set the tone at No. 2 singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 decision over Christie. Rames followed at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Orta, while McChristian rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 outcome against Darek Kayser at No. 4. Armbrust posted a 6-3, 6-3 result at No. 5 over Henry Godar, and Rademacher capped the singles slate with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Reid Jackson at No. 6.
At No. 1 singles, Voss navigated a split-set battle to secure the win, dropping the second set before closing out Love with a 10-6 tiebreaker to claim a 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 victory.
Nebraska Wesleyan has three American Rivers Conference matches remaining.
