Softball Blanked Twice on Day 2 of Space Coast Games

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Florida sun offered no favors for Nebraska Wesleyan on Monday.

The Prairie Wolves dropped both ends of a doubleheader at the Space Coast Games, falling to Baldwin Wallace 6-0 in the morning before Shenandoah shut them out 4-0 in the afternoon to close out a difficult second day of play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1 - Baldwin Wallace 6, Nebraska Wesleyan 0

In the opener, Baldwin Wallace starter Breckyn Daniel was quietly dominant. The right-hander scattered four hits across seven complete innings, walked one and struck out four, giving the Prairie Wolves little breathing room from the first pitch. Nebraska Wesleyan's best threat came in the third, when Paige Comstock and Ella Wolff singled to put two on with nobody out, but the Yellow Jackets escaped unscathed.

Baldwin Wallace broke through in the fifth when Morgan Palos laced a run-scoring single to left-center, then put the game away with a five-run seventh. Palos was a thorn in NWU's side all morning, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI. Lexie Vaillant ignited the decisive frame with an RBI double, and Avery Curran capped it with a two-run single off the right-center wall. Eva Fahrnbruch went the distance for the Prairie Wolves, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits.

Game 2 - Shenandoah 4, Nebraska Wesleyan 0
The second game followed a familiar script. Shenandoah never trailed, touching Jaedyn Ratzlaff for a run in the first on a Cadence Rieg double and a sacrifice grounder, adding another in the third on a Maddie Esham single to right, then putting it away with two more in the fourth on a Rieg two-RBI single up the middle. Ratzlaff absorbed the loss, allowing all four runs on eight hits over four innings.

The afternoon's lone bright spot came out of the NWU bullpen. Kolbi Davis entered in the fifth and delivered two clean innings, no runs, no hits, two strikeouts, providing a stabilizing finish to a long day in the Florida heat.

Shenandoah starter Gracie Ravenkamp earned her fifth win of the season, allowing just four hits over five innings while striking out five.
