Lincoln, NE - Nebraska Wesleyan softball was swept by Doane, Wednesday afternoon. The Prairie Wolves dropped game one 7-6, before being dealt a 14-8 defeat in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
Doane took control of game one early on, scoring four runs in the first inning. The Prairie Wolves cut the deficit to three on a ground-out from
Hayden Thomas that scored
Eva Fahrnbruch. Doane quickly retook a four run lead in the third before NWU's offense turned it on with three runs in the fourth, as
Eva Fahrnbruch,
Katie Hansen, and
Kenzie Heedum each picked up RBIs. After a scoreless fifth inning Doane added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth to pull ahead 7-4.
Kenzie Heedum cut the lead to two on an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Heedum would go on to score on an
Addyson Maxell single, which cut the lead to one as the game entered the final frame. Down one and needing to keep the game within reach, NWU did its job defensively, holding Doane scoreless and entering the bottom the seventh down 7-6. Nebraska Wesleyan would load the bases with zero outs as
Paige Comstock and
Kylie Fullerton each drew a walk, whileÂ
Eva Fahrnbruch reach base on an error. However, the Black and Gold were out at home on two fielder's choices before a pop-out to end the game.Â

Doane opened the second game with an eight run outburst over the first and second inning. Nebraska Wesleyan countered with an RBI single from
Jenna Kimberling that scored

Catie Ingalls.
Addyson Maxell doubled NWU's total with a fourth inning single that scored
Kenzie Heedum and
Moe Colegrove. The Black and Gold then pulled within two as
Jenna Kimberling launched a two run homer. However, Doane quickly retook an eight run lead by scoring five runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. Nebraska Wesleyan cut the lead to six in the sixth, as
Addyson Maxell scored on a passed ball before Kimberling drove in
Paige Comstock for her fifth RBI of the game. NWU was unable to mount a comeback as Doane earned a 14-8 victory
