Softball Rounds Out Spring Break Trip with Split

MELBOURNE, FL - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team rounded out its Spring Break trip down in Florida on Saturday with a pair of games against Western Connecticut State and Rivier. NWU earned a 6-0 victory over Western Connecticut State, before falling against Rivier. NWU improves its season record to 8-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1 - Nebraska Wesleyan 6, Western Connecticut State 0
Eva Fahrnbruch (5-3) earned the win after pitching a complete game, allowing zero runs on two hits with five strikeouts. 

Nebraska Wesleyan was able to put up crooked numbers in the first inning as they tallied a trio of runs. Paige Comstock hit home Catie Ingalls with Fahrnbruch swing home Jenna Kimberling and Hayden Thomas grounding out with Comstock scoring.

Nebraska Wesleyan extended their lead in the second inning, scoring on an Addyson Maxwell RBI single to center. The lead kept growing in the fifth with NWU's Thomas bringing home Kimberling and Fahrnbruch on a triple. 

Game 2 - Rivier 5, Nebraska Wesleyan 3

Jaedyn Ratzlaff (2-2) opened the game in the circle and pitched the first 4.1 innings, allowing four earned runs.
 

After three scoreless innings, Rivier took an early 2-0 lead in the fourth. In the top of the fifth, the Prairie Wolves snatched the lead with three runs after Taylor Korecky hit an RBI infield single and Lexus Hill hit a 2-RBI double. 

In the bottom half of the fifth, Rivier was able to take control of the game with three runs of their own.

Hannah Allen would come in and pitch in the fifth inning and finish out the final 1.1  innings with one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts. 

UP NEXT

The Prairie Wolves are back in action as they return home for a doubleheader on March 18, when they host the Tigers from Doane University starting at 4 PM.
