Box Score 2 Lincoln, NE — Nebraska Wesleyan softball struggled offensively in game one, before finding its groove in game two to earn a series split at Dubuque, Saturday. Nebraska Wesleyan now sits at 19-6 overall, and 1-1 in American Rivers Conference play.
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nebraska Wesleyan opened conference play with an 8-2 game one loss to Dubuque.
Elise Warneke was dealt her third loss of the season, in a game which saw her pitch six innings while allowing nine hits and recording four strikeouts.
Nebraska Wesleyan drew first blood on a two out solo home run from
Lyndsey Roth in the top of the first. However, Dubuque's bats were hot as the Spartans tallied three in the bottom half of the inning, before adding on two more in the second. After a scoreless third, Dubuque added insurance runs in the fourth, and fifth innings. Nebraska Wesleyan would slightly cut into the lead on a sixth inning,
Eva Fahrnbruch, sacrifice fly. The Spartans quickly responded with a run in the bottom of the inning. The seventh inning began with promise for Nebraska Wesleyan as
Paige Davison recorded a bunt single, before taking second on a passed ball. The Spartans would quickly squash NWU's rally by recording three straight out to end the game and secure an 8-2 win.

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nebraska Wesleyan picked up its first conference win of the season with a 7-5, extra inning victory over Dubuque, in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
Eva Fahrnbruch got the start in game two and pitched six innings while giving up five earned runs on 11 hits.
After two scoreless innings to begin the game, Nebraska Wesleyan broke through with a four run third, that was spearheaded by
Kamdyn Sprunk's one out triple that scored
Val Gerlach,
Lyndsey Roth, and
Hanna Roth. Sprunk would go on to score later in the inning on a RBI ground out by
Jenna Kimberling. Dubuque answered with one run in the bottom half of the inning. The Spartans would go on to score one more in the fourth, before scoring two in the fifth to tie the game at four. Dubuque then took the lead on a sixth inning RBI triple. Needing one run to stay alive, Nebraska Wesleyan dug deep and worked hard to get runners on base. After
Lyndsey Roth drew a walk, she was pinch ran for by
Paige Comstock. Comstock second on a wild pitch, and was driven home by a clutch two out RBI single from
Kamdyn Sprunk, which tied the game at five.
Elise Warneke then entered the game in relief of Fahrnbruch and shut the Spartans down in the bottom half of the inning. While neither team managed to score in the eighth, Nebraska Wesleyan retook the lead in the ninth on a
Paige Davison RBI single tht scored
Hanna Roth. NWU would add an insurance run later in the inning as
Val Gerlach drove in Davison to make the score 7-5. While Dubuque threatened in the ninth,
Elise Warneke pitched out of a jam and retired the tying run and give NWU its first conference win of the season.
