Two Meets Highlight Busy Weekend for Track and Field

Lincoln, NE (April 4th, 2025) - Nebraska Wesleyan track and field is set to compete at a pair of meets this weekend. The Prairie Wolves will send a small squad of distance runners to Friday's USD Early Bird, while Saturday will see NWU compete in jumps and throws at the Concordia Invite.

ABOUT NEBRASKA WESLEYAN
This weekend will mark Nebraska Wesleyan's third and fourth meets of the 2025 outdoor season. NWU last competed at the Central Nebraska Challenge on March 28th. Despite windy conditions, several Prairie Wolves delivered quality performances. This includes Drake Ferris setting a new freshman record in discuss, while Delaney Vacek took second in a competitive 800 meter run. However, Eli Mackowski and Anna Lundahl stole the show for the Black and Gold. Mackowski cleared 2.09m (6'10.25") in high jump which is the second highest jump in NCAA Division III, while Lundahl unleashed a 46.98m (154'2") toss in discuss which is the second farthest throw in NCAA Division III. For their efforts, Mackowski and Lundhal were named American Rivers Conference men's and women's field athletes of the week. 

USD EARLY BIRD LINE UP
Eight athlete will suit up for the 5,000 meter run at the USD Early Bird. On the women's side this includes Avary Byers, Payton Jorczak, Reese Kozisek, and Kari Mathsen. The men will send Conner Ross, Dylan Lender, Thomas Vasquez, and Josh Knispel

CONCORDIA INVITE LINE UP
Nebraska Wesleyan will only compete in the field at the Concordia Invite. For the women, Anna Lundahl, Kaelyn Means, Emmilly Berglund, Aspin Collins, and Ava Larmon will compete in discuss, while Sarah Kolterman and Claire Raszick partake in high jump. Fellow jumpers Kendra Poppe, Sydnee Cheek, and Libby Driver compete in pole vault. On the men's side, Colin Wojtkiewicz and Eric Lenz will compete in discuss, while Grahm Peterson and Robbie Rist take on pole vault. Lachlan Pickering, Terrell Davis, and Gunnar Jones will participate in long jump, with Jonah Amill and Jax Biehl taking on triple jump. Benjamin Cumpston will be the lone Prairie Wolf in men's high jump. 

DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD AND CROSS COUNTRY DERRICK MCKENZIE PROFILE
Derrick McKenzie is in his second season as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at Nebraska Wesleyan. In his first year, Nebraska Wesleyan had 14 NCAA qualifying performances, five NCAA All-Americans, and two National Runner Ups. The Prairie Wolves also won six individual conference championships and broke numerous school records. Prior to being named Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, McKenzie served as an assistant coach at NWU, where he coached sprints and relays.
