Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team showed tremendous fight before falling 4-3 to Hastings in a tightly contested matchup Wednesday at the NWU Tennis Courts as LSF Sports Complex. The Prairie Wolves (8-9, 4-4 A-R-C) nearly overcame a doubles sweep with three impressive singles victories.
How It Happened
The Prairie Wolves found themselves in an early hole after Hastings took all three doubles matches, but NWU's top pair of Crystal Craft and Caitlin Hudson nearly pulled out the No. 2 match before falling 7-5. The No. 3 team of Jayna Erickson and Parker Brown pushed their match to a tiebreak before dropping a hard-fought 7-6(4) decision.
Nebraska Wesleyan responded with gritty performances in singles play. Anna Burt continued her outstanding season at No. 1 singles, rallying from a set down to defeat Josline Carter 4-6, 6-4, [10-8] in a thrilling match that showcased Burt's mental toughness. Parker Brown dominated at No. 4 singles, winning with a 7-6(4), 6-0 victory over Cara Anshach. Crystal Craft added another comeback win at No. 3 singles, overcoming Paige Willcoxon 5-7, 6-2, [10-4] in a battle.
The match came down to No. 5 singles, where Caitlin Hudson lost the first set and won the second set tiebreak before ultimately falling 0-6, 7-6(5), [10-5] in a match that could have gone either way.
