Waverly, IA – Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis battled Wartburg on Saturday in American Rivers Conference action, with the Prairie Wolves earning wins at the top two singles positions before falling to the Knights, 5-2, at the Meirink Family Tennis Facility.
Wartburg claimed the doubles point after winning all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Kylie Engelsman and Madison Marsh pushed Wartburg's Brooke Bloom and Morgan Kathman before dropping a tight 7-5 match. Jayna Erickson and Sylvia Kamradt fell 6-1 at No. 2 doubles, while Jada Nguyen and Elizabeth Routh were defeated 6-1 at No. 3.
The Prairie Wolves responded with strong performances atop the singles lineup. Engelsman earned a hard-fought victory at No. 1 singles, rallying after dropping the opening set to defeat Kathman, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0. Marsh added Nebraska Wesleyan's second point with a straight-set win at No. 2 singles, edging Kendall Olson 7-6, 6-4. Wartburg secured the team victory with wins at the remaining singles positions.
Nebraska Wesleyan will continue conference play next week as they battle Simpson College on Tuesday in Lincoln.
