#10/#13 Wartburg Proves Too Much for Nebraska Wesleyan in 81-38 Loss

WAVERLY, Iowa — The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team faced a tough challenge on the road Saturday afternoon, falling to #10 Wartburg 81-38 at Levick Arena. The Prairie Wolves struggled to find their rhythm against a dominant Knights squad, dropping to 1-21 overall and 0-13 in the American Rivers Conference.

How It Happened

Wartburg (20-2, 13-0 A-R-C) came out firing, opening the game with a 23-7 first-quarter lead. The Knights' offense was relentless, shooting 50% from the field in the opening period and forcing 11 NWU turnovers in the first half alone. Nebraska Wesleyan managed to keep pace early in the second quarter, but Wartburg responded with a 9-0 run to take a commanding 44-16 lead into halftime.

The Prairie Wolves showed flashes of resilience in the second half, with Kiara Burnell leading the charge in the fourth quarter. Burnell, who finished with a career-high seven points, knocked down five free throws and converted a layup in the fourth quarter to keep NWU fighting. However, Wartburg's depth and efficiency proved too much to overcome. The Knights shot 44.8% from the field for the game and outrebounded NWU 51-23.

Mackenzie Griffin added eight points for the Prairie Wolves, while Brynn Sebek contributed seven points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Defensively, NWU forced 11 turnovers, with Sebek recording two steals. Despite the effort, the Prairie Wolves couldn't slow down Wartburg's balanced attack, which saw three players score in double figures, led by Lauren Woeste's 21 points and 11 rebounds.
