Simpson’s Hot Shooting Sinks Nebraska Wesleyan in 100-65 Loss

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team fell to Simpson College 100-65 on Wednesday night at Snyder Arena. Despite 15 different Prairie Wolves scoring, Simpson's relentless shooting, particularly in the second quarter, proved too much to overcome. The loss drops NWU to 1-21 overall and 0-13 in American Rivers Conference play, while Simpson improves to 13-10 (9-5 ARC).

How It Happened

The Prairie Wolves started slow, scoring just eight points in the first quarter as Simpson built a 16-8 lead. Simpson's offense exploded in the second quarter, outscoring NWU 34-14. The Storm shot 65% from the field in the period, including 7-of-9 from beyond the arc, to take a commanding 50-22 halftime lead.

NWU showed signs of life in the third quarter, scoring 21 points, but Simpson's offense remained efficient, putting up 31 points to extend their lead to 81-43. The Prairie Wolves fought hard in the fourth, outscoring Simpson 22-19, but the deficit was too large to overcome.

Despite the loss, several Prairie Wolves had notable performances. Maddie Demke led NWU with seven assists and three steals, while Carney Black added seven points, two blocks, and four rebounds. Alison Davis provided a spark off the bench, scoring nine points and grabbing four rebounds in just seven minutes of action. Brynn Sebek and Rhyanne Mackling each contributed five points, with Mackling going 3-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Simpson's balanced attack was too much to handle, as they shot 48.1% from the field and 47.1% from three-point range. Their bench outscored NWU's 48-41, and they dominated in the paint, scoring 38 points compared to NWU's 24.
