Wrestling Posts Largest A-R-C Dual Victory in Program History on Senior Night

LINCOLN, Neb. (February 5, 2024) – The Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling team delivered a dominant performance on Senior Night, defeating Buena Vista 45-6 at Snyder Arena. The 39-point margin of victory marks the largest for NWU in an American Rivers Conference dual since the Prairie Wolves joined the league.

The Prairie Wolves won nine of ten matches, including six bonus-point victories, to secure their third dual win of the season. NWU honored its senior class before the dual, and the group responded with a commanding effort on the mat.

How It Happened
The Prairie Wolves set the tone early, winning the first nine matches of the dual. At 125 pounds, Quinton Chavez opened the scoring with a 13-8 decision over Tyler Japp, showcasing his agility and control throughout the match. Robbie Fisher followed at 133 pounds, securing a 17-8 major decision over Nolan Nguyen with a relentless offensive attack.

Buena Vista forfeited at 141 and 165 pounds, giving Jared Gallub and Seth Littrell six points each for the Prairie Wolves. Travis Guzman continued the momentum at 149 pounds, dominating Hayden Stout in a 9-0 major decision. Kaden Ontiveros added another major decision at 157 pounds, defeating Jaxon Mikolyzk 15-7 with a series of takedowns and near-fall points.

The upper weights sealed the deal for NWU. Emilio Chavez earned a forfeit victory at 174 pounds, and Sam Weaver delivered one of the highlights of the night at 184 pounds, pinning Trevor Kruse in 6:29. Casey Kinnell followed with a quick fall at 197 pounds, taking down Jesus Ceja in just 1:22.

Buena Vista avoided the shutout with a pin at 285 pounds, as Colton O'Hern defeated Donovan Mann in 2:54.

The Prairie Wolves will close out their regular season on the road, traveling to compete at the Central Last Chance Invitational on February 14. The meet is set to start at 5 p.m. in Pella, Iowa, as NWU looks to build momentum heading into the NCAA Lower Midwest Regionals.
