Men's Basketball to Host A-R-C Tournament Semifinals

Lincoln, NE (February 26, 2025) - After posting a 19-6 overall record during the regular season, and going 12-4 in American Rivers Conference play, Nebraska Wesleyan is set to host either Wartburg, in the A-R-C tournament semifinals on Thursday, February 27th.

AMERICAN RIVERS CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
Thursday's A-R-C action will see Dubuque host Central while Nebraska Wesleyan will plays Wartburg. The championship game will be played on Saturday, March 1st. 

LOCATION, GAME TIME, LIVE STREAM & LIVE STATS
Thursday's game will be played at Snyder Arena, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. Nebraska Wesleyan will live stream the game and carry live stats.

NEBRASKA WESLEYAN SEASON IN REVIEW
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 19-6 overall record, and finished second in the American Rivers Conference with a 12-4 record. During the regular season, Nebraska Wesleyan scored an average of 71.7 points per game. The Prairie Wolves are led by seniors Jack Groeteke and Carter Glenn. Groeteke averaged a team best 14.8 points per game, while posting 132 rebounds and 54 blocked shots. Glenn emerged as an all around player for NWU, scoring 13.5 points per game, while dishing out 82 assists and pocketing 51 steals. As a team, Nebraska Wesleyan shot 43.1% from the floor, with a 33.5% clip from beyond the arc. Nebraska Wesleyan has been effective at drawing fouls, and shoots 73.4% from the free throw line. The Prairie Wolves pride themselves on being aggressive on the glass and bring down 39 rebounds per game. The Black and Gold play an unselfish brand of basketball and have recorded 341 assists. Defensively, the Black and Gold allow 63.5 points per game, with 207 steals, and 104 blocked shots.

HEAD COACH DALE WELLMAN
Dale Wellman is in his 11th season as the head coach of Nebraska Wesleyan Men's Basketball, having led the Prairie Wolves to numerous accomplishments, including a national championship in 2018. Under his guidance, the program has seen five A-R-C Regular Season titles and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. Wellman boasts an all-time record of 213-74. 

CHAMPIONSHIP CULTURE
Nebraska Wesleyan boasts a history of basketball excellence. Winning the national championship in 2018 and finishing runner-up in 1997, the Prairie Wolves have made five NCAA Division III Final Fours, appeared in 18 NCAA Division III tournaments, and won 16 conference championships. 
 

NEBRASKA WESLEYAN A-R-C TOURNAMENT NOTES

  • Nebraska Wesleyan holds three American Rivers Conference tournament titles, winning in 2018, 2019, 2020.
  • NWU holds an 8-5 record in A-R-C tournament games. 
  • Nebraska Wesleyan is making its second straight A-R-C semifinal appearance.

SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
Wartburg enters Thursday with a record of (16-10, 8-8 A-R-C). Wartburg defeated Loras, 96-86 in the quarterfinal round of the A-R-C tournament. The Knights score an average of 75.3 points per game, and allows an average of 74.1 points per game. Wartburg holds a shooting percentage of 45.0, with a 34.3 mark from three. The Knights shoot 68.5% from the free throw line. The Knights are led by coach Sam Leal, in his first season.
