PELLA, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling made its final postseason preparations at the Central Last Chance Invitational on Friday, with several Prairie Wolves putting together strong performances before the upcoming NCAA Lower Midwest Regional Championships.
How It Happened
At 125 pounds, Christopher McClanahan battled his way to the finals, securing a tech fall (20-4) in the semifinals before falling to Central's Rheiner Stahlbaum in a decision, 10-4. Julian Long finished third in the bracket, capping his day with a victory via injury default.
In the 133-pound bracket, Christian Keller, Jimmy Macias and Ivan Duero represented NWU. Keller advanced to the seminals before falling by decision (13-10) against Central's Ethan Skoglund. Macias picked up a pair of wins in the consolation rounds before falling in the fifth place match.
Randy Guerra fought through a deep 141-pound field, dropping a hard-fought match in the opening round before bouncing back with a pair of falls in wrestlebacks to claim fifth. Teammate Alex Schroeder also made noise in the bracket, securing a pin his opponent in the consolation bracket before dropping his final match.
Michael Barretto put together a solid showing at 149 pounds, reaching the semifinals before falling via tech fall (16-1). He finished in fourth place in the bracket.
At 165 pounds, Logan Hede dropped his first match of the day after receiving a bye. He battled back in consolations to finish sixth.
In the 174-pound bracket, Andrew Luna also found success, picking up a fall (1:26) in the consolation rounds.

With the regular season in the books, the Prairie Wolves shift their focus to the NCAA Lower Midwest Regional Championships on February 28. NWU will look to carry its momentum into the postseason and earn spots at the national championships.
