LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan shot putters Emmilly Berglund and Sam Clements each earned the American Rivers Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors following their performances to open the 2025–26 indoor track and field season.
In just the first week of the season, Nebraska Wesleyan's throwers swept the A-R-C's Field Athlete of the Week awards. Clements earned the first weekly honor of his young collegiate career, while Berglund also collected her first A-R-C weekly award. Berglund's success extended beyond the conference level, as she was additionally named the USTFCCCA Women's NCAA Division III National Athlete of the Week.
Berglund opened her junior season at the Bulldog Early Bird Invitational on Saturday, December 13, hosted by Concordia University. The Shelton, Nebraska native claimed first place in the shot put with a throw of 14.02 meters. Her mark currently ranks first in the nation after the opening weekend of the indoor season and set the tone for a strong start for the Prairie Wolves.
On the men's side, Clements also impressed in the shot put at the Bulldog Early Bird Invitational. The sophomore opened the season with a top finish in the event, posting a mark of 17.01m. That mark is currently the second farthest throw in the country and 4th all-time in school history. The sophomore also placed sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 16.75m. Clements has established himself as one of the top contenders in the conference and in the nation early in the season.
Nebraska Wesleyan will return to competition on Saturday, January 17, when the Prairie Wolves travel to Maryville, Missouri, to compete in the Richard Aslup Open, hosted by Northwest Missouri State.
