EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Nebraska Wesleyan sent a deep, hungry 20-man contingent north on Saturday, and the Prairie Wolves came home with 21 total wins at the 8-Man Battles hosted by Wisconsin–Eau Claire. Across a tournament split into "Gold" and "Flight" divisions and packed with regional firepower, 15 NWU wrestlers walked off the mats with at least one victory as the group continued to sharpen itself for the teeth of December.
NWU's early action set the tone for a workmanlike day. In the Gold 125 bracket,
Quinton Chavez pieced together two gritty wins on his way to a 4th-place finish, pushing the pace in all four of his bouts and providing one of the day's most competitive lightweight runs.
Jimmy Macias (133 Gold) and
Ivan Duero (133 Flight) each punched through for early wins, helping the Prairie Wolves stake momentum across the lower weights.
Cy Peterson (157 Gold) headlined the session with a three-win showing in the Gold division, including a clean, assertive pin that turned heads mat-side.
Michael Barretto (149 Gold),
Nathan Rowden (149 Gold), and
Alex Schroeder (141 Flight) each secured victories to keep NWU's scoring steady through the most crowded divisions.
Casey Kinnell (184 Gold),
Braike Jones (184 Gold), and
Emilio Chavez (174 Gold) all tallied wins as NWU's upperweights continued to swing big late. Heavyweight
Donovan Mann (285 Gold) capped the afternoon with a victory of his own, helping NWU crest the 20-win mark for the event.
Trev Halsey (165 Gold),
Diontrell Evans (157 Flight), and
Aaron Robles (125 Flight) rounded out the Prairie Wolves' winning performances.
