Central Takes Control in Second Half to Defeat Prairie Wolves

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team fell to Central College, 76-59, in an American Rivers Conference matchup Wednesday night at Snyder Arena. With the loss, the Prairie Wolves drop to 1-14 overall and 0-6 in league play, while the Dutch improve to 10-5 and 3-3 in conference action.

How It Happened

Nebraska Wesleyan came out firing on all cylinders in the opening quarter, riding a 50% shooting effort from beyond the arc to secure a 21-18 lead. Carney Black provided an early spark for the Prairie Wolves, scoring 13 of her game-high 19 points in the first half, including a pair of buckets from deep. However, Central responded with a balanced attack, and a 12-0 second-quarter run shifted the momentum. The Dutch took a 36-31 advantage into the locker room.

The Prairie Wolves clawed back to start the third quarter, narrowing the deficit to four points on multiple occasions, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers from Brynn Sebek. Central countered with a barrage of their own, as Abby Johnson drilled four triples in the period to extend the Dutch lead to 11 heading into the fourth.

Central's depth proved pivotal in the final frame, with their bench contributing 37 points overall. Despite a late push from NWU, including Maddie Demke's 16 points and Sebek's 12, the Dutch controlled the pace down the stretch, securing the 76-59 victory.
