Women's Basketball Set to Host Conference Foes Central and Coe this Week

LINCOLN, Neb. (January 13th, 2025) - Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball's three game homestretch rolls on as the Prairie Wolves play host to Central and Coe this week. 

LOCATION, GAME TIME, LIVE STREAM & LIVE STATS
Nebraska Wesleyan will host Central College on Wednesday, January 15th, with tip off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Prairie Wolves will then host Coe College on Saturday, January 18th, with tip off set for 2:00 p.m. Both games will be played at Snyder Arena, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Nebraska Wesleyan will live stream the game and carry live stats.

ABOUT THE PRAIRIE WOLVES
Nebraska Wesleyan (1-13, 0-5 A-R-C), put up a valiant effort, but ultimately came up short in a 68-56 loss to #11 Wartburg College last Saturday. Despite the losing record, the Prairie Wolves have displayed continued improvement and look to break through and win their first American Rivers Conference game of the season.

Through 14 games, the Prairie Wolves have shown strong determination and a focus on improvement at both ends of the court. Offensively, NWU enters this week averaging 53.9 points per game and looks to expand upon last Saturday's 56 point effort. The 56 points marked NWU's sixth highest scoring game of the season, with the highest coming in a dominant 83-52 victory over Crown College. Nebraska Wesleyan enters Wednesday night shooting 34.6% from the floor, with a 26.6% clip from beyond the arc. Nebraska Wesleyan also holds a respectable 66.8% mark from the free-throw line. NWU averages 33.6 rebounds per game. The team also plays an unselfish brand of basketball that averages 9.4 assists per game.

Defensively, Nebraska Wesleyan has held five opponents under 70 points, while allowing an average of 75.6 points per game. The Prairie Wolves pride themselves on being active defensively and have recorded 128 steals and 18 blocks.

HEAD COACH JIM WIEDIE
Jim Wiedie is in his first season as head coach in 2024. He holds an 1-13 record as the head coach at NWU. Wiedie brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. Wiedie has amassed an overall coaching record of 311-226 across 19 years as a head coach at the NCAA Division I and II levels. Known for his strong player development, Wiedie will look to instill a winning culture at Nebraska Wesleyan.

Before joining the Prairie Wolves, Wiedie served as an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska Omaha, focusing on recruiting and player development. He also holds the distinction of being the all-time winningest coach at both the University of Findlay during their Division II era and Indiana State University, leading those programs to new heights.

SCOUTING THE DUTCH
Central enters this week with a record of (9-5, 2-3 A-R-C). The Dutch score an average of 66.9 points per game, and allow an average of 63.4 points per game. Central holds a shooting percentage of 39.2, with a 29.7 mark from three. The Dutch shoot a respectable 72.8% from the free throw line. The Dutch are led by coach Justin Weiland, in his second season. 

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST CENTRAL COLLEGE
Wednesday will mark the 30th meeting between Nebraska Wesleyan and Central. The Dutch hold a slight 17-12 edge in the all-time series.

SCOUTING THE KOHAWKS
Coe enters this week with a record of (12-2, 4-1 A-R-C). Prior to visiting Nebraska Wesleyan, the Kohawks will face Dubuque on Wednesday, January 15th at 5:30 p.m. The Kohawks score an average of 72.5 points per game, and allow an average of 59.6 points per game. Coe holds a shooting percentage of 43.5, with a 33.2 mark from three. The Kohawks shoot a respectable 75.7% from the free throw line. Coe is led by coach Kayle Waskow, in her ninth season. 

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST COE COLLEGE
Saturday will mark the 20th meeting between Nebraska Wesleyan and Coe, with Coe holding an 18-1 all-time series lead.
