LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball hung tough early but fell to No. 11 Wartburg, 68-56, on Saturday afternoon at Snyder Arena.
How it Happened
Nebraska Wesleyan opened the game strong, racing out to a 19-17 lead after the first quarter behind Brynn Sebek's eight early points. The Prairie Wolves scored effectively in transition, highlighted by a few fast-break layups off of steals from Sebek and Maddie Demke.
Wartburg responded with a dominant second quarter, outscoring NWU 22-12 to take a 39-31 halftime lead. The Knights capitalized on six second-chance points, five points off turnovers and five first half triples.
NWU tried to claw back in the third quarter, as Demke's defensive pressure forced key turnovers that led to transition buckets. However, Wartburg's efficiency from the field, shooting 57.1% in the frame, helped extend the lead to 62-44 entering the final quarter.
The Prairie Wolves showed resilience in the fourth, holding Wartburg to just six points while Carney Black and Demke added late baskets. Despite the defensive effort, NWU couldn't close the gap.
