Softball Heads to Florida to Partake in The Spring Games

Lincoln, Neb.- Nebraska Wesleyan is set to travel to Florida to partake in The Spring Games. The Prairie Wolves will compete in 12 games over a seven day period.

THE SPRING GAMES INFORMATION
  • Nebraska Wesleyan will play games in two games in Leesburg, Florida, four games in Kissimmee, Florida, and six games in Clermont, Florida.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan will face Desales University, Waynesburg University, Alfred University, Northland College, Marian University, Penn State Berks, Geneva College, Wittenberg University, Saint Mary's University, Elizabethtown College, SUNY Geneseo, and the University of Northwestern.
SERIES INFORMATION
  • Sunday will mark the first meeting between DeSales and Nebraska Wesleyan. Sunday will also see Nebraska Wesleyan face Waynesburg University.
  • Monday will see Nebraska Wesleyan face Alfred University for the first time before playing Northland College for the third time. Each team has won once in the two prior meetings with Nebraska Wesleyan earning a 15-4 victory in the last match up.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan will meet both Marian University and Penn State Berks for the first time on Tuesday.
  • The Prairie Wolves will meet Geneva College for the second time on Thursday. Nebraska Wesleyan defeated the Golden Tornadoes 13-2 last season. Then Nebraska Wesleyan will take on Wittenberg University.
  • On Friday, Nebraska Wesleyan will face Saint Mary's University in the third meeting all time between the two programs. Each team holds one victory in the series with Saint Mary's defeating NWU earlier this season and Nebraska Wesleyan winning last season. After playing Saint Mary's, The Black and Gold will face off against Elizabethtown College in the second meeting between the two programs. Elizabethtown holds a 1-0 series lead.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan will conclude its run at The Spring Games on Saturday, March 9th. NWU will play SUNY Geneseo in the second match up between the two programs. Nebraska Wesleyan holds a 1-0 series lead. Saturday will also mark the fifth match up between Nebraska Wesleyan and the University of Northwestern. The Prairie Wolves hold a 4-0 series lead.

SCOUTING THE PRAIRIE WOLVES
Nebraska Wesleyan enters The Spring Games with a 2-2 record. Through four games the Prairie Wolves have posted a batting average of .255, hit three home runs, and have driven in 18 RBIs. Nebraska Wesleyan holds a slugging percentage of 38.8% and an on base percentage of 37.3%. Defensively, the Prairie Wolves have a 94.4 fielding percentage. Jenna Kimberling and Hanna Roth are tied for the team lead with five hits. Roth also leads the team in RBIs with three. Taylor Korecky has posted a team high .455 batting average. Pitcher Kenna Ford is 1-0 and carries a 2.00 ERA. 

MARY YORI PROFILE
Head Coach Mary Yori enters her ninth season as the head coach of Nebraska Wesleyan's softball progam. Yori was hired as Nebraska Wesleyan's first full time head softball coach in June of 2015. In eight seasons as head coach, Yori has complied a 151-128 record and was the 2016 AD3I All-Independent Co-Coach of the Year. Under Yori's leadership, Nebraska Wesleyan has seen both individual and team success. Yori coached Nebraska Wesleyan to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 2022 and has won 20 games five times. Last season Yori helped pitcher Elise Warneke earn first team All-Conference and third team NFCA Third Team All Region honors. In Yori's time at Nebraska Wesleyan, 10 athletes have earned NFCA/NCAA III scholar athlete honors.

WELCOME TO THE SHOW
Freshman outfielder Taylor Korecky burst onto the scene at the Mankato Dome Games, hitting one home run, driving in two RBIs and recording five hits. Korecky enters The Spring Games with a batting average of .455, a slugging percentage of 1,000, and an on base percentage of 53.8%. Defensively, Korecky has posted a 75.0 fielding percentage. 

NEBRASKA WESLEYAN SOFTBALL TRADITION
Nebraska Wesleyan's lone conference championship occurred in 1986. That season saw Nebraska Wesleyan post an 8-4 conference record in the NIAC. Nebraska Wesleyan's only NCAA tournament appearance occurred in 2022. That season saw Nebraska Wesleyan go 23-16 overall, and 8-8 in American Rivers Conference Play.
