Softball Wins First, Drops Second in Dreary Doubleheader

Lincoln, NE - Faced with a dreary forecast, Nebraska Wesleyan and Wartburg battled to a series split, Friday.
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED

Nebraska Wesleyan's offense rallied for 12 hits, Eva Fahrnbruch tossed a complete game, and NWU halted its five game losing streak with a 14-9, game one victory over Wartburg. After surrendering a run in the first inning, the Black and Gold answered with RBIs from Jenna Kimberling and Paige Comstock to put NWU ahead 2-1. The Prairie Wolves doubled their total with two runs in the second, before blowing the game open with a four-run third. Wartburg refused to go quietly, scoring five straight runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the lead to two. Nebraska Wesleyan would regain a five run advantage in the bottom of the fifth, as Jenna Kimberling picked up an RBI before Catie Ingalls scored on a wild pitch. Stella Campin would cap off the inning by driving in Hayden Thomas. Wartburg again closed to within two by scoring three runs in the sixth, but the Prairie Wolves quickly answered with three of their own as Addyson Maxell and Stella Campin drove in their first and third RBIs of the game. Eva Fahrnbruch polished off a complete game with a perfect seventh to help the Prairie Wolves improve to 9-12.
