ST. PAUL, Min. - The Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves women's basketball team faced a challenging test on Monday evening, dropping a 93-37 decision to the University of Northwestern (MN) in the Ericksen Center. The Prairie Wolves, still battling to find their rhythm this season, demonstrated moments of grit despite the final outcome.
How It Happened
The Prairie Wolves opened the game with energy, highlighted by a quick three-pointer from Carney Black to put NWU on the board. Black led NWU with nine points and five rebounds. The Eagles were hot from the get-go, but a big three from Brynn Sebek briefly cut the lead to nine in the first quarter. However, Northwestern's high-pressure defense and hot shooting proved to be a formidable challenge. The Eagles connected on 16 three-pointers and forced 22 turnovers, disrupting NWU's offensive flow.
NWU showed flashes of promise in the second half, with Sebek and Maddie Demke providing steady leadership in the backcourt. Despite Northwestern's extended lead, the Prairie Wolves fought to the final whistle, with Jaedyn Ratzlaff delivering a late layup.
Key Performers
NWU struggled to find its offensive rhythm, shooting 29.6% from the field. Despite the challenges, the Prairie Wolves recorded nine steals and showed improvement in defensive rotations throughout the game.
