EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling team traveled to the 8-Man Battles hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday, Nov. 23, and showcased grit and determination against top regional competition. Led by standout performances from
Robbie Fisher and
Quinton Chavez at 133 pounds, the Prairie Wolves earned numerous placements and recorded several exciting victories.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Robbie Fisher and
Quinton Chavez stole the show for NWU in the 133-pound Gold Division, each earning their way to the championship match. Fisher powered through the bracket, pinning Ryan Goddard of UW-Eau Claire in just 37 seconds before a dominant 20-4 technical fall in the semifinals. Chavez was equally impressive, securing a 13-8 decision in the quarterfinals and a first-period pin in the semis. In a twist of team camaraderie, the pair opted for a double forfeit in the final, earning co-runner-up honors.
At 157 pounds, freshman Kaden Ontiveros had a breakout performance. He opened with a commanding 12-3 major decision before rebounding from a quarterfinal setback with two decisive wins, including a 51-second pin in the consolation semis. Ontiveros capped his day with a 13-4 major decision in the fifth-place match.
Seth Littrell dominated the consolation bracket at 165 pounds, delivering back-to-back technical falls to finish fifth. He showcased relentless offense, outscoring his opponents 33-3 in his final two matches.
The Gold 285 division saw tough battles for NWU's big men. Both Donovan Mann and Damien Dumo represented the Prairie Wolves with determination but faced challenges in their brackets. Their seventh-place match ended in a double forfeit.
