WAVERLY, Iowa (October 26, 2024) – Nebraska Wesleyan women's volleyball dropped a hard-fought five-set match to Wartburg College, falling 3-2 at Levick Arena. Despite the loss, senior outside hitter Addie Thomas reached a significant milestone by recording her 1,000th career dig. The Prairie Wolves' record now stands at 17-7 overall and 4-2 in American Rivers Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Prairie Wolves faced a challenging start, falling behind early as Wartburg took the first set 25-17. Nebraska Wesleyan regrouped in the second set, showcasing a determined effort that saw them edge out a 25-21 win to tie the match. In the third set, NWU carried their momentum forward, winning decisively at 25-18 to take a 2-1 lead and place themselves in a promising position.
Wartburg responded with resilience in the fourth set, finding their rhythm and stifling the Prairie Wolves' offense to claim a commanding 25-10 victory. The decisive fourth set forced the match into a fifth and final set, with both teams battling for every point. Wartburg held on in a closely contested fifth set, ultimately outlasting NWU 15-13 to seal the 3-2 win.
Despite the loss, Nebraska Wesleyan saw impressive individual performances, including Addie Thomas's achievement of her 1,000th career dig. Thomas led the attack with 10 kills, while Kobie Patten added 13 kills, helping keep the team competitive throughout the match. Setter Elecea Saathoff directed the offense with 35 assists, as Ella Foote anchored the defense with four total blocks.
